Ruth Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the third youngest daughter of Lithuanian-Jewish parents Mary Pauline (Gold) and Abraham Roman. As a child, Ruth Roman's carnival-barker father died in a tragic way, which forced her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as a waitress or cleaner to help them be able to survive. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She went to school in Boston. She left the school only after two years of school to take on a acting career. This was not an easy path to follow. Although she got an opportunity as a hat check girl in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication but no theater jobs was offered. Then, after a time as a club hat girl, she decided to return to her home in Massachusetts and leave the job she was working in. She was in Boston where she worked during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and during the day she was an usherette. She has also been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
